I actually live about one half block from the project. I was excited to join the plan as I knew it would greatly benefit the homeowners in our area. About this project -- it will greatly improve the neighborhood and also create 100s of jobs in our area. Despite a few fliers going around objecting to this project I believe the opposite is true in the following ways. First it will provide many jobs in our area and give this neighborhood a shot in the arm. It will make Danny Nunn Park safe and also add value to our homes in our area. It will create a safe place for our kids to play and grow in. It will improve our neighborhood by building much needed bathrooms and have security cameras to protect its citizens at nights.

At the last meeting, some people got up and stated, well, their houses would going to sink if all the gas was taken out. Well, Tokay Park built about 60 years ago and people have been using that water all these years and the properties have not sunk.

My father owned the gas station that is now currently the Jack in the Box. I have called him about this project to ask him, you know, what he felt about it. He said that his gas station actually posed more of a problem than the natural gas that sits in the ground. We've got gas lines going into our house, pumping gas into our homes right now. There's a risk, that you can go turn on your pilot and it can blow up. It's just the risks are small that the need for it outweighs the risk. We carry risk every day.

Outreach for the Sacramento Natural Gas Storage project has focused on Community Engagement and an inclusive Neighborhood Campaign providing accurate and thorough information from which residents, property owners, businesses, and stakeholders can base reasoned perspectives.

This outreach effort started at the grassroots level involving one-on-one meetings with community/neighborhood leaders. To effectively interface with the neighborhood, SNGS chose to work with small groups in order to identify and respond to key issues, and to refine a larger outreach approach before addressing the general community. Community outreach has included:

    • Identified 1,600+ person mailing list (residents, property owners, non-property owners and stakeholders)
