The Sacramento Natural Gas Storage Project
The Sacramento Natural Gas Storage (SNGS) is a proposed project that would utilize the millions of years old existing Florin Gas Field to safely store a vital new supply of natural gas for the Sacramento region. This project will replace some of the gas removed by Union Oil in the 1980s.
- Brings a reliable energy source to the Sacramento region
- Stabilizes the local economy and provides annual revenue to the City of Sacramento and to the region
- Provides revenue streams to homeowners in the immediate and adjacent area
- Creates a Foundation to give money back to the community
- Uses safe, cutting-edge technology, environmentally-conscious design and operations
- Is a good neighbor and works closely with the community, businesses and regulators

Operational Facilities
The existing Florin Gas Field is located approximately 3/4 mile underground and is roughly centered below Danny Nunn Park (at Power Inn Road and 53rd Avenue). Surface facility operations will be located at two industrial-zoned sites. The well site will be located on the east side of Power Inn Road at Junipero Street. The compressor station site will be located in Depot Park. Construction of underground pipelines will take place in an existing utility right-of-way, not in the streets.
Natural Gas Storage is Critical and a Crucial Backup Supply
Natural gas, a clean-burning fuel that provides a quarter of U.S. energy needs, is produced throughout North America and transported through a network of thousands of miles of pipelines. These pipelines are sized to meet normal needs, but peak seasonal demands pose a persistent challenge. Peak demands occur in both winter and summer. Storage facilities throughout the nation are the most common and cost effective way to meet our energy needs.
Natural gas storage is important for our economic security as well. Storage of energy in secure underground facilities protects the economy from the damage of interruption that could come from natural disasters.
